Waverton House, Gloucestershire. 1978 - 1980.

This stone house in the Cotswolds is built around a familiar 18th-century formula, that of a single central staircase lit from above and surrounded by rooms on both floors. The detailing is a combination of the stone vernacular of the Cotswolds and the bolder expression of Sanmicheli, expressed particularly in the Ionic doorcase. The use of simple whole numbers governs the plan and section throughout.
